Reference
This is a good reference book providing information compiled at the time that the First Canadian Contingent was first formed in 1914. It does not reflect the changes that were made when this contingent was reorganized, when the officers and men were reorganized into fewer companies to create the fighting battalions.
If you are looking for an early reference of those officers and men who attested in the earliest days of the war, before the battalions were mobilized to the UK, then this one is a good one.
A later edition (1998) contains an informative Forward by Terry Cave that provides some historical perspective of the formation, the major recruitment centres, and the mobilization of the Canadian force.
